On May 12, 1940, the
plant hosted a contest to determine the name of the official Old Hickory
DuPont Company paper. A committee met at the plant to determine which of
the 74 suggestions would be selected. It was unanimous that the name would
be "The Rayon Yarns." The title was submitted by two
individuals, Mr. K.N. Calkin and Mrs. Reba V. Leeman. The plant
publication would bear this name for 25 years. Although there is no
mention as to what these two people received for their creative effort,
the memories left to the thousands of employees of the "Rayon"
period will linger for generations to follow. We will post an edition
and/or articles from past Rayon Yarns on a regular basis.
